Rattan furniture is a durable, eco-friendly material that has proven its quality over time and its ability to transform into comfortable furniture for a rest after a hard day, or to receive friends and family in an outdoor foyer decorated with rattan furniture, such as a swing ideal for enjoying the outdoor air, bread and fruit baskets, and a large table that accommodates a large number of people, while ensuring ease of cleaning and preventing food residue or stains from sticking. On the contrary, you can restore it to its original condition with minimal effort.
But when you see a product that you like, have you ever wondered what material it is made of or how it is made?
What is rattan material?
It is a natural material used in the manufacture of furniture, in addition to household items, and recently in accessories.
But where does it come from?
It is made from the stems of the palm plant known as sea bamboo.
The manufacturing process begins after the stems are cleaned and dried. They are then ironed, whether bamboo stems or thin rattan strips, and shaped to create a rattan sofa set or chair backrest, due to their unique features, which we will discuss in the next section. They are also used in the manufacture of tables, lampshades, and other items.
Natural or synthetic rattan?
If the original is found, there are new and modified versions. This does not mean lower quality, but sometimes the modified version is superior to the original if it achieves the desired result. Natural rattan has a soft texture and high quality that can withstand daily use without any problems, whether manufacturing or material defects. However, it is less resistant to external environmental factors, which requires that it not be exposed to moisture, rain, or scorching sunlight. Unlike rattan made of plastic, you will notice a harder texture and a radiant color, which means more resistance if used in beach furniture, clubs, or home gardens.
But natural rattan will provide warmth and harmony with brown furniture, and it is environmentally friendly when used in interior design, ensuring a long life for the furniture without any unexpected additional costs.
