3 Mistakes to Avoid When Designing Interior Design: Part Two

In continuation of what was discussed in the previous article about mistakes that are important to avoid when designing the decor, it was necessary to know more elements that may prevent you from achieving the comfort and desired goal of paying attention to the details of your home, as the wrong choice of curtains or installing lights in all corners without knowing the ideal mathematical calculation, or buying wall paintings in disproportionate sizes are also clear and costly mistakes.

The wrong choice of curtains blocks your life

  • Colors are the most important element in every part of the home, like the king on a chessboard. Choosing the wrong color can ruin the entire look. To stay safe, choose neutral colors like white, which include:

Angelic, goes with all colors, helps let in as much sunlight as possible.

However, if you tend to convey a strong appearance or love privacy, forget what was mentioned in the previous lines and go for clear colored curtains.

You can refer to the color wheel and coordinate between two opposite colors. For example, if the walls are yellow, you should:

Hang purple curtains and stay away from red as it is opposite green.

  • What is the intended function of hanging curtains? It may seem simple, just a piece of fabric. However, if you're interested in learning important mistakes to avoid when designing your home, I advise you to determine the role of the curtain in each room. The bedroom requires privacy, which calls for choosing heavy materials such as:

Cotton and linen, while other rooms are better suited to light or sheer fabrics.

  • If you noticed during a previous visit to a relative's house that the ceiling appeared low, pay attention. Did they install the curtain directly above the window? Does it rise too high above the floor? This creates a sense of suffocation, creating an optical illusion that makes the room appear smaller. Therefore, curtains should be installed 10-15 cm below the ceiling and continue their length until they reach the floor, but approximately 5 cm above it.

Murals can do more harm than good to a room's design.

  • If you feel something is wrong after hanging the wall art, you should review some warnings under Mistakes to Avoid When Decorating. Hanging a wall art that is less than two-thirds the width of the sofa or more than its width is the first warning. A large wall art should be hung two-thirds the width of the sofa. If you can't find what you need, you can purchase a set of wall art pieces to arrange next to each other, paying attention to the overall width of the piece as well as the space available.

  • Murals are an art of sight and spirit, which makes you think first about the meaning of the art you want to send to yourself or to your visitors, because they often carry messages or artistic meanings. Make sure they fit your personality and your perceptions of beauty and life.

Incorrect lighting emits disturbing signals to the eyes.

  • Lighting is no less important than other mistakes that should be avoided when designing a decor, as installing it incorrectly can affect eye comfort. For example, if you hear about diversifying lighting, be careful not to install a combination of yellow and white lighting, as they will harm the color and dimensions of the space.

  • Choosing the wrong chandelier size without considering its location in the space. If the chandelier is larger than required in the space allocated to it or smaller, you will feel a lack of harmony because it appears within an imaginary space that is not its actual size. So, for example, if you have a large dining table in the room, the size of the chandelier must be two-thirds larger than its size. You can hang three small chandeliers to achieve the same equation.

  • If you don't know exactly what the central area of the room is, no problem. There is a common mathematical rule you can follow: length + width of the room x 10 cm and the result will determine the ideal dimensions for the diameter of the chandelier.

These were three important mistakes to avoid when designing an interior, and an explanation of how to avoid them before they occur, in addition to important mistakes discussed in the previous article.
